Pain Recovery – the SIRPA Approach

Are you struggling with Chronic Pain, Headaches and/or other Persistent Symptoms?

“Millions of people around the world suffer from chronic pain. In fact, one in six adults and 30-40% of primary care patients suffer from pain symptoms and chronic conditions that are ‘medically unexplained’.”

Often the cause of pain is obvious…. a broken leg, a burn or a bruise. But there are times when the source of pain is unseen, for example lower back or knee pain, or in more complex conditions such as fibromyalgia or chronic fatigue. Persistent pain (more than 12 weeks) often serves no useful purpose. These pain signals get stuck in a ‘Red Alert’ warning state and our central nervous system can be over sensitised. Over time, this affects what we can do, our ability to work, our sleep patterns. It can have a negative effect on our family and friends. Persistent pain is exhausting and debilitating and can affect all areas of our life.

Maybe you have been checked by a doctor and given no obvious causes for your pain. Or the scans and X-rays indicate a problem but you have tried various forms of treatment with no good results.  The ‘Pain Recovery Programme’ is a way to help people address the underlying causes of stress-induced persistent pain and other symptoms, and to give them the tools to recover.

  • It is important to ALWAYS get persistent or new pain (or other chronic symptoms) checked out by your doctor or health care provider to rule out any serious condition, before assuming that your condition is stress induced.

I am SIRPA trained and help people recover from stress-related long term pain and chronic conditions. I came to this area of work after undergoing the process myself (with the support of a SIRPA practitioner) and recovering from a lifetime of back pain and other symptoms, when all conventional treatments had failed. I found I was meeting people coming to my yoga therapy sessions with a long history of chronic pain. Many had tried multiple treatments and (failed) surgeries, and I found I was asking them different questions to get to the bottom of the causes of their pain, using different methods to treat them, and ultimately having greater recovery success.

The pain recovery process is therapeutic and tailored to the individual and looks at the WHOLE person, rather than a fragmented approach. After an initial free 20 minute chat, you will be required to do some reading to understand the process, complete an assessment form, and undertake an in-person review meeting. After this, clients may choose to work alone or continue to attend one-to-one sessions with me to further understand the process and be supported through it. Email updates are part of the process and a free copy of SIRPA founder Georgie Oldfield’s book ‘Chronic Pain – Your Key to Recovery’ is included when you pay for an assessment.

The cost of the treatment is as follows:

Initial 20 minute chat/recommended reading – free

Assessment form, review and 1.5 hour in-person meeting/or 2  x 45 minute Zoom sessions (plus free book) – £125

Individual follow up one hour 1-2-1 sessions with email support – £60 per session

Set of 5 x 1-2-1 sessions with email support – £240 (paid in advance)
